Museum sleepover - 5th August

On Thursday 5th August Room 6 and 7 travelled by bus to the Otago Museum for a sleep over. When we finally arrived we headed to the Discovery Pad, and then into the butterfly house. I saw all three tarantulas, my favourite was the big hairy one! I enjoyed playing in the new part of Discovery World called Survival World. We had pizza for tea, and then we lined up to explore the museum at night, we ended up in Animal Attic!! I really enjoyed the night walk. Thanks Hamish and all the parents and teachers for helping.

On Tuesday 27 July 2010, Room 6 and Room 7 went to the Tech block to meet Mrs Duggan. Mrs Duggan came down from Christchurch to teach the kids and teachers at Fairfiled School how to draw and shade. We drew a pumpkin, bucket and book. We shaded light and dark with two different pencils.
It was fun!

Learning to draw with Wendy Duggan

On Tuesday July 27, Room 7 and Room 6 went to see Wendy Duggan.  We drew a book, a bucket and a pumpkin.  It is called still life.  We did some planning steps.  We drew a fence which is the outline that helps you to figure out where to put things.
The hardest part was the shading, we had to shade light and dark.  We used two pencils, an HB and a 6B, the HB is our classroom pencil and it's light, the 6B pencil was Wendy's and they are really dark.  I really enjoyed learning to draw!

Yesterday Room 6 and Room 7 went up to the Tech Block to learn to draw.  We met a lady named Wendy Duggan.  She is an artist from Christchurch.  We drew a book, bucket, and one big pumpkin.  We drew slowly step by step, this is called sketching.  I enjoyed it a lot!

On the 24 of May, Room 7 and Room 14 went on a trip to the Portobello Aquarium. Both classes went by bus, it took a long time to get there. It was raining that day so we had to take our coats. We went there because we were studying animals. I was in Laura's Nanas group with Bridget and Lili. A lady showed us a mystery creature, and then we were split into three groups.
I went to the touch pools first where I saw a star fish try to eat a scallop, but the scallop swam away! It was funny!!
The lady then told us the mystery animal was called a 'snake skin chiton'. I learnt a lot and had a great time!

Hectors World Link!

http://www.hectorsworld.com/island/index.html
Click on this link to watch Hector the Protector and his friends!

Today in the computer lab we watched Hector Protector and his friends. We watched the episode called "Details, Details", which talked about how important it is not to share all of your personal details on line. Personal details means our full name, address, e-mail and telephone number. We also had a wee look around on the map to see all of the fun activities that are on this website.

Then we went into our own blog and learnt how to put a comment on, making sure that we made a comment that was meaningful to the person or thing that we were commenting on. We also only used our nickname or first name at the end of our comment.

We then went on to learn about ComicLife and started making Cyber Safety posters. We will put these on our blog once we have completed these.

Leave a comment Room 7 and tell us something that you learnt about when you watched Hector the Protector.

Our KidPix Slideshow on the Circle of Life!

Welcome to Wacky Whales!

Welcome to Rm7 Wacky Whales blog site. We are a fun, energetic class of 22 year 3 children. We are so lucky to have 2 awesome teachers in our room. Miss Tudor teaches reading and writing in the morning, and Ms Lee teaches us maths, topics... in the afternoon. Our class also has a pet fish, her name is Louise, she's a very quiet member of our room.

Danny came up with our fantastic name 'Wacky Whales', he thought it suited us well, and fitted in well with our class inquiry unit on 'animals' and 'the circle of life'.
